I’ve been looking everywhere for a way to delete duplicate song entries in iTunes or any other player for example. The stressing part is that for iTunes I use the „Consolidate Library” option which allows you to store your tracks based on the artist’s name and album name, so you’d better get your tags right in order to have a proper sorting and neat looking library.
e.g.
My Music/Leftfield/Rhythm And Stealth/Phat Planet.m4p
My Music/Leftfield/Rhythm And Stealth/Afrika Shox.m4p
..where Rhythm and Stealth is a whole album
Then there’s the problem of getting compilations right. It looks unpleasant to have something like
My Music/De-Phazz/Coffeeshop Vol. 4/Silky Dreams.m4p, where Silky Dreams is the only song by De-Phazz from a 2 CD compilation. It’s frustrating because instead of modifying tags and arranging directories, iTunes just marks it as part of a compilation, yet doesn’t move it.
iTunes copies music from a folder like „Random Music” and sorts it by its tags, but doesn’t delete the „Random Music” files, so you have shitloads of duplicate entries.
So … get out your Edit > Show Duplicate Songs and start deleting! Manual work hardcore. And be sure to check the song info, since there is no tab indicating the location of your song, to Ctrl + Click and Clear every song.
Lovely! 😕
